The Energy Technology Engineering Center (ETEC) is owned by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and is undergoing closure as the facilities are no longer needed.
ETEC is located at the Santa Susana Field Laboratory (SSFL) in eastern Ventura County, California near the crest of the Simi Hills at the Western border of the San Fernando Valley. The site also borders Los Angeles County, California to the east.
Although the ETEC facilities are DOE owned, the 2,849 acre SSFL is owned by The Boeing Company (Boeing) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
The SSFL occupies 2,849 acres of rocky terrain with approximately 700 feet of topographic relief near the crest of the Simi Hills.
