Landowner

ETEC is located within Area IV of the Santa Susana Field Laboratory (SSFL). Area IV is owned by The Boeing Company.

The area is zoned for agricultural with a 5 acre minimum (RA-5A). SSFL is currently operating under a conditional use permit granted by Ventura County. The landowners of SSFL (i.e. NASA and Boeing), will determine future land use in accordance with approved zoning and permits. See the Boeing SSFL website for more information about SSFL.

In 1947, North American Aviation (NAA) bought the first parcel of what today is the 2,847 acre SSFL. The remote property was purchased as a test laboratory for rocket engines, facilities to support the development of nuclear energy, and a DOE center of excellence for research involving liquid metals.

The SSFL is comprised of four discrete operational areas with two adjacent undeveloped properties. Historically, the DOE leased a 90-acre portion of Area IV for government sponsored activities. The site has been continually operated by Boeing and its predecessor companies.
