Chemical Co-Located Sampling Documents Now Available

DOE and DTSC have been in the field working on the chemical co-located sampling effort with EPA. Since the beginning of the co-located sampling effort several documents have been prepared by CDM, DOE's contractor and approved by DTSC. DOE is committed to keeping the community informed in a timely manner of the chemical co-located effort and all other DOE-related efforts on the site. A new co-located chemical section has been added this website, which will include the documents listed below, future documents and information regarding chemical co-located sampling.

California Red-legged Frog Habitat Site Assessment - Santa Susana Field Laboratory Area IV and Vicinity, Ventura County, California

In a letter dated October 5, 2009 from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the California red-legged frog was identified as a listed species that may occur at or near the SSFL Area IV and two adjacent undeveloped land areas. This Habitat Assessment focuses on SSFL Area IV and adjacent undeveloped lands, which are proposed to undergo a Radiological Study by EPA and are the subject of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) being developed to address the future remediation and decommissioning of the site by the DOE.

DOE and NASA Reach Cleanup Agreements with the State of California for the Santa Susana Field Laboratory

The Department of Energy and NASA both signed Administrative Orders on Consent (AOC) with the California Environmental Protection Agency that define the process for characterization and the cleanup end-state for portions of SSFL. This is a copy of the Administrative Order on Consent that was signed on December 6, 2010 by DTSC and the Department of Energy. This legally-binding order describes the characterization and process for cleanup.
