Building 4065 Metals Clarifier SWMU

Description

This page describes the RCRA (chemical) cleanup of the Building 4065 solid waste management unit (SWMU).

Building 4065 was constructed in 1963 and initially operated as a vacuum test facility. After 1973, it served as a chemistry laboratory that performed metalurgical examination of sodium components, analytical chemistry, and was equipped with a scanning electron microscope. The metals clarifier was primarily used to allow gravity separation of grit from a waste water stream resulting from a metal polishing operation.

Building 4065 was demolished in 1999. The metals clarifier has been removed and samples have been collected and analyzed. DOE has submitted an RFI report to DTSC and is working with the agency to complete the corrective action activities at this site.
