Phase 3 Chemical Data Gap Sampling Investigation

DOE and DTSC have been in the field working on Phase 3 Chemical Data Gap Investigation for Area IV and the NBZ of the SSFL. Like during the co-located sampling effort several documents have been prepared by CDM, DOE's contractor and approved by DTSC. Those documents and approvals can be found on this page.

DTSC approves Department of Energy's request to defer implementing the 6 soil vapor probe locations in Subarea 5A and 3 Test/Pit Trenching locations in Subarea 5D until remedial phase due to bird nesting identified by the site biologist. See supporting documentation here.

DTSC approves Addendum No. 11 to Master Field Sampling Plan for Chemical Data Gap Investigation, Phase 3 Go-Back Soil Chemical Sampling at Area IV, Subareas 5A, 5D, 8, and the Northern Buffer Zone (CDM Smith, 4/2014). Addendum No. 11 supports implementation of the soil sampling program described in the "Work Plan for Chemical Data Gap Investigation, Phase 3 Soil Chemical Sampling at Area IV, Santa Susana Filed Laboratory, Ventura County, California" (4/2012). April 2014

DTSC approves addendum No. 20 Final Soil Vapor SOP to the Master Field Sampling Plan for Chemical Data Gap Investigation, Phase 3 Chemical Sampling at Area IV. Addendum No. 20 describes recommended soil vapor surveying procedures for use on the Department of Energy (DOE)‐administered property at the Santa Susana Field Laboratory (SSFL). DOE will use this SOP for the collection of soil vapor data that will be used to address data gaps identified during the data gap analysis performed as part of the Phase 3 chemical characterization. On April 22, 2014 the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) along with the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) hosted a public meeting to discuss Phase 3 Chemical Data Gap Sampling, Final Phase 3 Data Gaps Block 2 Go-Backs for Subareas 5A, 5D, 8, and the Northern Buffer Zone (NBZ) including GIS. DTSC approves Addendum No. 10 to the Master Field Sampling Plan for Chemical Data Gap Investigation, Phase 3 Go-Back Soil Chemical Sampling at Area IV for Subareas 5B, 5C and 3/6. Addendum No. 10 includes the data gap analysis and proposed sampling locations and objectives for each sample.

November 2013

DTSC approves Addendum No. 9 to the Master Field Sampling Plan For Chemical Data Gap Investigation, Phase 3 Chemical Sampling at Area IV for the Northern Buffer Zone. This addendum includes the data gap sampling analysis and the proposed sampling locations and objective for each sample.

DTSC approves Phase 3 Subarea 5A North Implementation Plan. The Implementation Plan supplements the Subarea 5A Data Gap Analysis Technical Memorandum that was submitted as Attachment 1 in Addendum No. 4 to the Master Field Sampling Plan to Chemical Data Gap Investigation, Phase 3 Soil Chemical Sampling at Area IV and was approved by DTSC in September 2012.
