Workshops
Sometimes the issues and tasks at Area IV are so complex that DOE makes an extra effort to inform community members … and members of the public commit additional energy to learn about these activities.
-
Soil Treatability Study: DOE is preparing to see which soil treatment technologies, if any, can effectively address soil contamination in Area IV. The Soil Treatability Study has been designed to evaluate if there are any in situ (in-place) treatment technologies that could effectively meet the requirements of the 2010 Administrative Order on Consent.
-
Groundwater U: in the Spring of 2011, about 100 people attended a seven-part “Groundwater U” that provided background information on groundwater generally and on the highly complex, multi-volume Groundwater Remedial Investigation Report for the SSFL. The workshop was designed to help interested stakeholders prepare to review and comment on the Report. Groundwater U Resources available through this link include copies of the presentations, presenter bios, suggested readings, a tour booklet, and session videos.
-
SRE Workshop: to respond to community concerns about the Sodium Reactor Experiment accident of 1959, which some people say was the worst nuclear meltdown in US history, DOE invited three independent experts to review the historical record and present their observations at a public workshop. About 150 people attended in August 2009. Information materials and videos may be found at the SRE Workshop page.
