Environment and Health
The Santa Susana Field Laboratory neighbors a number of local communities and serves as a habitat for native plants and animals. Extensive analysis from multiple federal and state agencies reveals that communities near Area IV are safe. However, there is contamination onsite that needs to be addressed. This section includes information about environmental monitoring, cultural and biological studies, engagement with the local community and former worker health and safety.

It’s a key part of DOE’s mission to address stakeholders’ questions about how DOE protects past, present, and future workers, and what DOE is doing to monitor and protect the surrounding environment and communities.
